REPAIRS ADJUSTMENTS AND REGULATING

I check and attend all action parts for wear, breaks, looseness or incorrect alignments and advise a plan to remedy. All Felts: Hammer head felts, Hammer rail felts, Hammer butt felts,Check felts,Whippen felts, Dampers etc All Leathers: All Hammer Butt and Check leathers etc All Axles and Flanges : All Springs: "Damper Return Springs" can unseat or break or bend , Repetition or butt Springs can also unseat or break Also the repetition springs "holder cords" can be broken and require replacing . Escapement "Jack" return springs can unseat or break, Bridle tapes vital in proper hammer return can be broken and often require replacement.

LOST MOTION Pianos wear with use and so in time you may find when you push a key down lightly, there develops "take-up slack" 2mm to 5mm can be pushed down before you feel a " take-up " of the action and the hammer actually feels like it is now travelling towards the string. This "lost motion" feels like your not on even ground,as it varies from key to key. Some call it a double touch. This needs to be regulated back to instant touch, for optimal response and even ( level ) playability. This regulation of lost motion costs from approx $75 to around $150 depending on the piano.

KEYS Key can need attention where they become either tight ( requires easing ) or loose ( requires tightening ) to the keys. Keys have felts and sometimes leather in them and felts and papers underneath in the "key bed". With time and use the felt and leather bushings and punchings compress so losing their level and making playing unpleasant

I level the keys where it is needed and take out any "sideway slack" as well as replacing any worn out or moth eaten felts and paper " punchings" that are under the keys.Cost for this varies depending on the condition and time required but usually adjustments are all that is required. If the felts under the keys are moth eaten, they may be individually replaced and levelled or all may need replacing and then a re-levelling is required. Prices for this varies greatly, Key tops are sometimes lost or broken and in many cases I have a similar one on hand to replace it with. In other more serious cases and where it is a good piano, re-covering the set is recommended.
